Crystal Structure and Properties of Metal-Organic Macrocycles and Metal-Organic Gels Based on Rigid Bis-imidazole Ligand

Complexes [Ag(4-PIM)]ClO4 (1) and [Zn(IPI)]Cl-2 center dot H2O (2) were synthesized by the reaction of ligand 2-(4-pyridinyl)-imidazole (4-PIM) and 2-(4-(1-imidazolylphenyl))-imidazole (IPI) with AgClO4 and ZnCl2, respectively. Dynamic responses of THF hydrate-bearing sediments under small strain: Resonance column test

Knowledge of the dynamic responses of hydrate-bearing sediments under small strain conditions is a fundamental issue in terms of evaluating the stability of gas hydrate-bearing layers under natural forces, such as eustatic sea level and earthquakes as well as artificial activities for example gas production from hydrate reservoirs. However, this issue has not yet been fully understood. In this study, a customized hydrate resonance column was utilized to measure the dynamic response of tetrahydrofuran hydrate-bearing sediments with different conditions. The results show that the shear modulus increases exponentially with increases in the confining pressure or decreases in the shear strain, while the damping ratios decrease exponentially under identical conditions. Under the same confining pressure, the shear modulus and damping ratio increases as hydrate saturation rises. The stress sensitivity index (b) of shear modulus decreases monotonically with an increase in hydrate saturation. The shear modulus is negatively correlated with porosity when the tetrahydrofuran (THF) hydrate is predominantly pore-filling type, and the damping ratio and sensitivity index b are positively correlated with porosity. However, when the hydrate is mainly load-bearing type, the shear modulus and damping are both related positively with porosity. This is because the total amount of hydrate in specimens with identical hydrate saturation increases with higher porosity, while the sensitivity index b is negatively related to porosity. The hydrate formed in pores leads to a normal increase in the shear modulus and an abnormal increase in the damping, due to trace amounts of residual water between the surface of the hydrate and the particles. This study provides a basis for the comprehensive understanding of the dynamic responses of hydrate-bearing sediments under small strains. It is of great significance for seismic or sonic well logging evaluations on gas hydrate saturation and its dissociation degree in hydrate reservoirs.

New way of anionic ring-opening copolymerization of beta-butyrolactone and epsilon-caprolactone: determination of the reaction course

Poly(epsilon -caprolactone)-block-poly(beta -butyrolactone) copolymers were prepared in two-step synthesis. Firstly, poly(epsilon -caprolactone) (PCL) was obtained by anionic ring-opening polymerization of CL initiated with anhydrous KOH activated 12-crown-4 cation complexing agent. Reaction was carried out in tetrahydrofuran solution and argon atmosphere at room temperature. Then, beta -butyrolactone (BL) and 18-crown-6 were added to the system, resulting in PCL-block-PBL copolymer, which contains after methylation hydroxyl starting group and methyl ester end group. The main product was contaminated with PCL and PBL homopolymers formed in a side reactions. C-13 NMR technique was used for determination of chemical structure of polymers obtained. The course of the studied processes was proposed. MALDI-TOF technique was used to reveal the macromolecules’ architecture where several series were found. The identified series shown that mainly copolymeric macromolecules were formed with scare contribution of homopolymeric polybutyrolactone with trans-crotonate starting groups and polycaprolactone, which is congruent with the proposed reaction mechanism. Moreover, critical approach concerning previously reported PCL-block-PBL copolymer synthesis by use of NaH as initiator was also presented.

Highly fluorescent bisboron complexes in both solution and solid-state: Synthesis, photophysical properties and lipid droplet imaging in living cells

A new family of pyrimidyl-enolate-based bisboron complexes (DB1-3) with intense fluorescence in both solution and solid-state has been developed. Although these complexes have a propeller-shaped structure, DB1-3 showed intense fluorescence in the diluted solution because of the efficient steric hindrance induced by phenyl rings. As a result, a very weak AIE effect was observed in the tetrahydrofuran-water binary solvents. Moreover, these complexes displayed highly efficient solid-state fluorescence with high quantum yields ranging from 32 to 55%. The relationship between the excellent photophysical properties of these complexes and their propeller-shaped structure was rationalized by single-crystal X-ray analysis. Utilizing the advantages of highly emissive in both solution and solid-state and good hydrophobicity, DB1-3 can target lipid droplets in living HeLa cells, which may be used as novel scaffolds for developing fluorescent LDs probes for investigating the related pathological processes.

Comparison between Basic and Inverse Dual Drug and Peptide-coated Stents in a Porcine Restenosis Model

Dual drug-eluting stents (DES) is a primary treatment method for coronary arterial diseases in current interventional cardiology practice. However, their pathological results according to the sequence of coating of drugs have not been reported yet. The peptide-dopamine dissolved in acetonitrile was coated onto the Chonnam National University Hospital (CNUH) stent using an electrospinning coating machine. For secondary coating (e.g., sirolimus coating, designated as SPS), sirolimus (SRL) and poly lactic-glycolic acid (PLGA) were mixed in tetrahydrofuran (THF), and the solution was then coated on the CNUH stent that had underwent the primary peptide coating using an electrospinning and spray technique. Next, the peptide-dopamine was coated on the SRL-PLGA coated stent (PSS). In this study, it was confirmed that endothelialization was promoted without being significantly affected by the coating order (SPS or PSS). The sequence of drug and peptide coating may affect the development of restenosis and PSS was effective in the prevention of restenosis compared to that of using SPS.

A novel method for fuel oil desulphurization by deep eutectic solvent extraction coupled with reduction using sodium borohydride

In order to improve sulphur removal efficiency, deep eutectic solvent (DES) is first introduced into the fuel oil desulphurization process with sodium borohydride (NaBH4). Thereby, a novel method for fuel oil desulphurization by extraction coupled with reduction is proposed, where DES is used as stabilizer and extractant and NaBH4 is used as reducing agent. The nickel borides produced from NaBH4 and nickel salts were characterized using a particle size analyzer, surface area analyzer, and transmission electron microscopy. The results show that the nickel borides produced in DES have smaller particle sizes and a higher BET surface area than that in methanol/tetrahydrofuran (MeOH/THF). Sulphur removal efficiency using DES as medium was higher than that using MeOH/THF as medium. The effect of process parameters on the sulphur removal efficiency was investigated by orthogonal experiments. The results showed that the sulphur removal efficiency of dibenzothiophene can reach more than 96%. The desulphurization of dibenzothiophene should proceed over the cleavage of C-S bond to biphenyl and desulphurization reaction followed the pseudo-first-order reaction. The structures of the DESs remained unchanged after regeneration. In summary, the novel desulphurization method is feasible and promising.

A Lanthanide-Containing Coordination Polymer Using Tetraphenylethene-Based Linkers with Selective Fe3+ Sensing and Efficient Iodine Adsorption Activities

As a star ligand, the construction of coordination polymers (CPs) based on tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)ethylene (H4TCPE) has drawn much attention, due to not only the various coordination configurations but also the intriguing chromophore feature causing aggregation-induced emission (AIE). Herein, by the solvothermal reaction of H4TCPE as connected nodes with lanthanide La(III) salts, the first example of the La(III)-TCPE-based CP (1) has been obtained. The structural analyses indicate that 1 exhibits a 3D framework connected by the sharing carboxylate groups with two kinds of 1D rhombic channels when viewed along the c direction. The photophysical properties of 1 have been explored by luminescence, photoluminescence decay, and quantum yield in the solid state. 1 shows strong luminescence in tetrahydrofuran that was attributed to a pseudo-AIE process and sensitive and selective sensing activity of Fe3+ toward metal ions via the obvious luminescent quenching. The sensing mechanism has been investigated and reveals a synergetic effect of the competitive absorption and weak interactions between 1 and Fe3+. Moreover, the high porosity, multiple conjugated pi-electrons within the tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)ethylene backbone, and the uncoordinated carboxyl oxygen sites in this material also provide the capacity for iodine adsorption. The adsorption experiments indicate that 1 could efficiently remove almost complete I-2 from the cyclohexane solution after 24 h contact time with an adsorption capacity of 690 mg/g toward I-2.

The effects on antioxidant enzymes of PMMA/hydroxyapatite nanocomposites/composites

In this study, polymer-ceramic nanocomposites and/or composites were prepared by solution removal method using poly(methylmethacrylat) (PMMA) and nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA). They were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflection spectroscopy (FTIR-ATR), and differ-ential thermal analysis/thermogravimetry (DTA/TG). Their effects and biocompatibilities on antioxidant enzymes were also investigated in detail. It has been shown that nHA was dramatically dispersed at nanoscale in the polymer matrix. The interaction occurred between -OH groups of nHA and carbonyl groups of polymer and introduction of ceramic into the polymer matrix generally resulted in an increase in thermal stability. Nano composites and composites had different effects on enzyme activities. Samples synthesized in acetone increased enzyme activities for glutathione reductase (GR) and glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) enzymes, while inhibiting glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) enzyme activities. On the other hand, samples synthesized in tetrahydrofuran (THF) exhibited inhibitory behavior for G6PD and CAT enzymes. The samples synthesized in different media did not show any regularity on enzyme activities. The nanocomposites and/or composites prepared in acetone media were better hemocompatible than those in THF.
