A series of enantiomerically pure gamma-heteroatom substituted beta-hydroxy esters were synthesized with high enantioselectivities (up to 99.1% ee) by hydrogenation of gamma-heteroatom substituted beta-keto esters in the presence of Ru-(S)-SunPhos catalyst.
