5- (2-aminoethoxy)-N- [3-chloro-4- (pyridin-2-ylmethoxy) phenyl] quinazolin-4-amine (obtained as described in Example 2.6, preparation of starting materials, 0.5 g, 1.19 mmol) was heated to 130C in xylene (20 ml) until it had dissolved. (S)- (-)-a-hydroxy-y- butyrolactone (0.10 ml, 1.31 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred at 130C for 3 hours. More (S)-(-)-oc-hydroxy-y-butyrolactone (0.05 ml, 0.66 mmol) was added and the mixture was heated for a further 2 hours.
